West MacDonnell Ranges

The watercolour artists who continue the legacy of Albert Namatjira are commonly referred to as the Hermannsburg School as it as at the mission that Albert first made contact with Rex Batterbee and ultimately learned the techniques of water colour painting. Hermannsburg is located near the magnificent MacDonnell Ranges and most of the artists, past and present come from the country to the West of the MacDonnell Ranges and draw on this for their subject matter.
