South Australian Anangu
The Mirning language is Ngandatha, based on the phrase 'What is it?'. They are relatively short in stature and practice rites of circumcision and subincision.The Mirning people were one of the founding members of the "People of the Whale", a project to research the relationship between whales and indigenous people.
Many contemporary artists associated with this area, use abstracted imagery, representing rain, the sandhills and tracts of country that are embedded in ancestral stories.
