The artists of the East Kimberley traditionally paint with natural pigments sourced from ochre pits in the region. Waringarri Aboriginal Arts, located in Kununurra was established in 1985 and is the original art centre in the Kimberley and one of the oldest established centres in Australia. Warmun, located at Turkey Creek has represented many key artist of the region such as Rover Thomas, Queenie McKenzie and Jack Britten. Both centres continue to provide strong support and marketing for their artists under the direction of the coordinators.
