Daisy Bitting : a tribute

04/10/2009 to 15/10/2009

At Waringarri Aboriginal Arts, one artist quietly made an indelible mark on all who participated at the art centre and the many visitors. Her paintings are imbued with the memory of childhood stories, of journeys walking across country between one station and another to visit family. Along the way there were waterholes for catching fish, good camping grounds and Dreaming places to remember. These were the stories and the knowledge she learned from her father and mother.

These memories are the key to Daisy Bittings art - stories told and painted with simple yet heartfelt truth. Small, almost diminutive Daisy, quietly worked to bring about images that would tell her story and gain the successes that gave her pride in her ability to contribute to family life and the education of her grandchildren. Daisy was a significant member of Waringarri Aboriginal Arts. She was an Executive Board member, a growing artistic talent, a winner of the 2006 Shinju Matsuri Art Award and most importantly a gentle spirit quietly reminding us about family and community and the important contribution of art and culture.

For all the artists and community who had the pleasure of Daisys quiet ways, this exhibition pays tribute to her and her legacy. It recognises the value of each member of the arts community for their most important contribution - themselves.
