Betsy Napangardi Lewis was born  c.1940  Kunajarrayi near Yuendumu, situated approximately 300kms west of Yuendumu, later moving to Mt. Doreen Station with her family when she was quite young, and was bought up by Paddy Japanangka Lewis. Yuendumu became her permanent home after she finished schooling there and she started painting in 1999. She is a custodian of the Mina Mina Dreaming site and of many other Dreamings. Her distinctive imagery uses high colour and motifs that respond to the ancestral mythology relating to her country.
